Cyril, also known as Constantine, was a philosopher and diplomat who created the Glagolitic script and translated church texts. He negotiated in Rome the possibility of preaching in the national language. Methodius, a lawyer and diplomat, led monks in Great Moravia and baptized Borivoj and Ludmila on June 5, 853, at the invitation of Prince Rostislav. The center for Old Slavic culture included Velehrad and the Sázava Monastery. Notable works include the Proglas, Nomokámon, and the Panonian Legends, authored by the disciples of Cyril and Methodius. The Latin literary influence brought chronicles and legends, including the Legend of St. Wenceslas and Dalimil's Chronicle, which is a versified account of Czech history.
