MTA Regional Bus Operations Overview

MTA Regional Bus Operations (MTARBO) is the bus division of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in New York City, established in 2008. It manages 238 local routes, 79 express routes, and 20 Select Bus Service routes, operating a fleet of 5,840 buses, the largest municipal bus fleet in the United States. As of 2024, MTARBO serves approximately 2,610,600 riders daily, totaling 812,516,800 annual trips. The division includes MTA Bus, which integrates former private routes, and MTA New York City Bus, which consists of public routes acquired by the city before 2005. MTA also offers paratransit services.
